It’s been a long, stressful week. You’ve burned through that entire box of “calm” tea, and you’re running low on wine and are thinking you need a massage ASAP. Yes, you know exactly this feeling, don’t you…
Well, here’s something you may not have heard of before, or if you have, it certainly was not in this context. A new type of massage specifically for women has grown increasingly popular, and it might have you equally confused and intrigued. The “yoni massage” is, for a lack of better terminology, a vagina massage. It is not sexual, nor does it have anything to do with orgasming.
Yoni is a Sanskrit term, and it means “sacred portal.” A yoni massage includes deep breathing and even finger penetration, along with specific touching. The goal is to help women discover what makes them feel good, so, naturally, an orgasm can occur.
In an interview with Women’s Health, a somatic sexologist who specializes in this unique type of massage, said:
“A yoni massage is a ceremony where a woman is invited to seize touch on her vulva. When we invite touch, there's opportunity to cleanse a sense of energy … The biggest benefit is that they feel a sense of embodied wisdom of what gives them pleasure.”
If you’re open to trying this out, a trip can run you up around $300. I’d say this is best for women who have difficulty climaxing during sex or even on their own. Obviously, do your research and find the right, totally qualified masseuse! The result could potentially mean better, more frequent orgasms, and there is certainly no shame in wanting to pursue that!
Relaxing, taking time, and getting to know your body is important, regardless of whether you pay someone to help you or not.
