Male Agency Staffers Read Heart-Wrenching Quotes From Female Co-Workers

March 8 was International Women’s Day, a holiday that used to be called “International Working Women’s Day,’ but the word “working” has been omitted over the years for reasons upon one can only draw their own conclusions. The day was originally created to celebrate women for their economic, political, and social achievements, but I believe it has perhaps lost some of its potency.

Women do not just work as hard as men do. Oftentimes, we must work harder than men do in order to achieve the same recognition. That is, of course, if we are recognized at all. We aren’t paid the same as men, and while it’s lovely to celebrate how incredible women are, it is important to also note the heart-wrenching struggles that women are still facing today, especially in the workplace.

TBWA Worldwide is an international advertising agency, and the company aired a video yesterday in honor of International Women’s Day. The video features 100 male staffers giving voice to the quotes the agency received in an anonymous global survey of women in the advertising industry. In the video below, the men stare directly into the camera while speaking up on behalf of the women who shared their comments.

It is still mind-boggling to me that watching men speak about the things women experience is considered moving or controversial, but if this helps spread awareness of women’s struggles, then so be it.
