Having Sex on Your Period
So if your partner’s down for it, then why, really, can’t you have sex while you’re on your period. We (and most doctors) say go for it, but here are a couple of Period Sex tips to make the experience a little more pleasant for everyone involved.
First and foremost, use protection. Contrary to popular belief, you can still get pregnant on your period and contract sexually transmitted diseases. Some women’s ovulation cycles can overlap with menstruation, and sperm can live for 3 to 5 days inside your body. Unless your planning and ready to get pregnant, make sure you’re using contraception.
You can minimize the mess by using a female condom or a menstrual cup. Neither of these interfere with intercourse, and will cut down on the bloody aftermath that could ensure if you’re going commando. Throw a towel down too to protect those 600 Thread Counts you got last year, and everyone should be happy. The shower is a also a very viable option for period sex…just make sure you’ve got some anti-slip traction to avoid busting your ass.
Period blood acts as an extra lubricant, so don’t be surprised if you’re actually a little more into the experience than you thought you might be. Go with it, your partner might like it better as well.
Don’t freak out…if you see clumps of blood or brownish discharge after sex. This is your uterine lining and blood clotting. It’s all good and you don’t need to be alarmed.
Are your ready to get down on your period? Go for it girl, and let us know if you’ve got a tip for us!
